eSIS Report Card FAQs

Most teachers have had success accessing eSIS from home by ensuring that Java is installed on their home computer, and then using Opera as their browser to access eSIS. See our Home Use page for detailed step-by-step instructions.

This happens when Java has not been installed on the computer, or when Java is installed on the computer but not enabled within Opera.  To enable Java, open Opera and go to Tools/Preferences/ Advanced/Content  and check off  "Enable Java".

Not necessarily.  In your current browser, try accessing eSIS from the DDSB Quick Links.  If you are able to get into eSIS and view your classes, you will be fine to do report cards.  Downloading Java and Opera are only necessary steps for those home users who cannot currently access eSIS.

This is set Board wide.  No title will appear if the optional box is not used.  When any data (either marks and/or comments) are entered in the optional box, the title Additional Comments will appear on the report card.  Schools that use the optional box cannot change this title, so the comment in this box would need to begin with an indication of what is being commented on.

It is not possible to set all students to be checked off automatically for one of the check box options (French, Core, IEP, NA, ESL, ESD).  It is necessary to check off the applicable boxes individually for each student.  However, experience has shown that this can be done quickly by using the down arrow on the keyboard to navigate down the class list.

You will have to check off "core" and also check off  "French" to indicate the second language.

Sometimes in multi-strand subjects, eSIS will only allow you to query in the first strand. If this happens, exit all the way back to the main Teacher Assistant screen. Then go back into the multi-strand subject again, you can usually query in all strands. Occasionally, you have to exit back and go in yet again. Eventually you will be able to query in the other strands.

Click in the box in which you want to type.  Then, go to the grey menu bar at the top of eSIS and click on Edit.  This will open up an editor window as pictured below.  You can type in this window at regular speed and eSIS should not lag behind.  Click OK when done to enter the typing in the box you had clicked on to start.

When in a subject screen, click on Comment Book / District Comments to access the elementary comment bank.  Be sure to define the correct grade under the Category drop down, and select only the subjects prefaced with ELEM in the Subjects drop down.

The available space in each subject box in eSIS is set to a maximum character count.  Since our comments are bulleted, and carriage returns (pressing the enter key) aren't counted as characters, there might be times when a second comment won't fit even though it appears that there should be room.  These settings can't be changed at the school level.  You will either have to use only one comment for that subject, or edit the comment from the Comment Bank to be shorter so that it will fit as a second comment.

Next steps comments have been created for English, French, and Math. They are found within the Comment Book under District Comments.  Be sure to leave the Category field blank since next steps are not grade specific.

On the Grade 7-8 report card, this happens automatically in eSIS.  On the Grade 1-6 report card, you will have to append your name to the bottom of the comment for each subject if you or your administration want the teacher name to appear.  This is done as follows:

  • click ALL beside the class list to select all students
  • click Comment Book
  • leave the existing comment in the preview window
  • enter down one line and type your name
  • click Transfer-Append to append your name to the end of all students' comments

This can happen for two reasons:

  • The grade of the report card pdf you're generating doesn't match the actual grade of the student.  When you set the term and pages for printing, also be sure to check the correct grade range under "Which Report Card?"

This cannot be done within eSIS.  The only way to accomplish this is to change the screen resolution on your computer.  In Windows, this is done by right-clicking on your desktop, clicking the Settings tab, and moving the Screen Resolution slider to the left to a lower resolution.  This will increase the visible window size and font size for all applications on your computer.  When done working in eSIS, you will want to reset this to the original screen resolution.

Sorry!  This cannot be done either by individual teachers or at the school level.  Margin settings, font size, specific positions where text appears, and spacing are all universal settings within eSIS.  These universal settings may be slightly changed for the second term report cards based on feedback received from administrators after the first term.
